A’s owner hopeful of Coliseum lease extension

Oakland A’s managing partner Lew Wolff said Monday that he’s hopeful a new lease extension will be worked out to keep the team playing at the Coliseum for the next two to five years.

“We would like to stay here and extend the lease,’’ Wolff told us Monday. “Both sides are pretty much in agreement, and I don’t see any real issue.’’

Wolff was responding to our report that Major League Baseball had offered to help the A’s relocate to San Francisco’s AT&T Park next season if a new lease couldn’t be worked out with the Oakland Alameda County Coliseum Authority’s board.

Wolff declined to comment on the prospect of a temporary move to San Francisco, saying only, “My goal is to stay here.’’

As for whether he wants a Coliseum lease limited to two years, as reportedly urged by MLB?

“We are happy to do the two years or the five years (sought by Coliseum Authority),” Wolff said. “We would prefer the longer lease.’’
